15th of March 2009
As the evening starts to fall, we make our way to the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam. Beheaded a night of Bombastic Melodic Progressive Industrial Power metal ( there I think I captured it all) The evening starts with the finnish band Indica. A very cool band which songs written By Jonsu were a pleasant surprise. Inspired by her own life and dreams, grown into classical music this all female band showed true potential although they already had their fourth album on the market. An album which is produced by Tuomas Holopainen.
INDICA are Jonsu (lead vocals, guitar, violin), Heini (bass, vocals), Sirkku (keyboards, vocals), Jenny (guitar) and Laura (drums).

Unfortunately we had missed the start while we were in line to get into the arena, but they did a great performance.Being a support act they did miss out on the lighting, but worked with it in a great way. The Girls had fun on the stage and brought us a great cover as Encore of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights". The performance lasted about 20 minutes and I was pleasantly surprised by the band INDICA.

PAIN
After the warm embrace of Indica and a quick changeover, The night really got started with the Swedish project PAIN. The project started out for fun by front man Peter Tägtgren, whose idea was to mix metal with techno influences. Tägtgren, who is the vocalist/guitarist of HYPOCRISY and producer/owner of The Abyss studios, is the only current member. On tour he is supported by Michael Bohlin (guitar), Johan Husgafvel (bass) and David Wallin (drums)

PAIN played a set of seven songs. Long hair flying around the stage and getting the crowd ready for the headliner Nightwish. They truly showed their best. Using their own video projections and lights the show was quite wicked. The whole arena sang along with the songs "Shut Your Mouth" and "Same Old Song". Incredible to see a crowd go off like that =P

Nightwish
After the recording of the live DVD ‘End of an Era’ in Helsinki on 21 October 2005,The four members of the band decided not to continue with Tarja Turunen. In Anette Olzon they found a new vocalist. Who with her own style slowly wins even the most stubbern Nightwish fan, by apearance and vocal skill.
Current members are Anette Olzon (vocals), Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards, vocals), Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (lead guitar), Marko "Marco" Hietala (bass, vocals) and Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (drums).

Then finally after a reasonable changeover the lights dimm once more... With a stage setting in the atmosphere of the Islander, a light show so incredibly awesome, Nightwish sets the first step to an incredible evening. When I went to this concert I was a bit preserved of the quality of Anette's singing. Being used to the High notes of Tarja it's quite different BUT.. Anette did a great Job. Since they have been touring for almost 2 year in a row, I am glad to have waited untill now and let her grow into the part she has to play. I was very very impressed.
Although a few changes had been made to the older songs, lower partitions and different tone scale. Anette really made the songs her own. A few misses though by Marco and Emppu but no biggies, I have seen and heard bigger mistakes. I guess they sometimes fall back to the old style which then causes trouble in their own part. The audience loved the show and all the tunes were sang along with the band. Creating an atmosphere I haven't seen a lot, the performance of "Dead Boys Poem" "Amaranth" and "The Islander" were amazing. Thanking the audience you could really feel the band had a good night and the crowd was taking it all in. The light show and stage setting were amazing, Pyro technics incredibly well timed. And you know what? If you want a show to sound like the CD, go home and put on the CD. This show had soo much soul and power, it gave me chills. I hope they will be able to continue the way they are headed cause it was awesome.
