November 21st Dynamo ProgNight

Ulysses:

BANDMEMBERS
Guitar - Sylvester Vogelenzang de Jong
Synths - Ron Mozer
Bass - Casper Kroon
Drums - René van Haaren
Vocal - Michael Hos
Current Album: "The Gift of Tears"
As I entered the venue Ulysses had just started. The small basement of Dynamo Eindhoven filled with a small crowd hanging, seated relaxed on the couches enjoying the performance of this band formed in 1998.
The vocals of Michael Hos could reach you right up to the bone. The night was set for some strong words in music. Lined up at festivals like "progpassion" and "trailerpop" before. This band is showcasing their latest production "The Gift of Tears" and celebrating their ten year anniversary with us. A stunning performance almost into perfection. I remember as I sat at the back leaning against the wall, Eyes shut and goose bumps all over as they played their songs "Lost" and "Family Portrait".

To me it was a very good show, the sensitivity in this music is stunning. The arrangements are incredible. Now I can't help but wonder where the inpsiration for these songs came from. They are delicate yet Strong, Later I even got surprised by a grunt from frontman Michael Hos. It set a great atmosphere and it was about to become a promissing night. Now I may be a novice when it comes to music and the ow so many genres and styles. But I know good music when I hear it. I never heard or saw this band perform before but It was excellent.

Being in this small metal dungeon the lighting was ok, I know there is not much to work with. The energy off the stage was awesome and I truly enjoyed this show. Afterwards my Partner in crime Pat had a little chat with one of the founders Sylvester Vogelenzang. Which you will find on a different space right here on Metaltome.com Stay Tuned ;)

Sons of Seasons:

Vocals: Henning Basse
Guitar-Keyboard: Oliver Palotai
Bass: Jürgen Steinmetz
Drums: Daniel Schild
Guitar: Pepe Pierez
This band formed in 2007 is definately surprising us tonight. Founded by Musical Intellect Oliver Palotai Whom we know of the Bands "Kamelot" and "Doro" He felt a strong need to have his "own musical playground with no limitations" and wow! In what way! Being well informed I have learned they just want to play. So in this Small setting they consume all the energy they can get.

With Vocalist Henning Basse they have a strong frontman who's compelling yet overpowering. Now being a Kamelot fan i expect alot from Oliver and his following. And I got more than i bargained for. A concert this intimate. Full of energy of which I can only say absolutely brilliant. The music is fantastic, now I can be a real Queen Bee when it comes to music but I have to say I've had my tough moments more than once this evening.

The set was incredible. Playing almost the entire Album "Gods of Vermin" We are tackled by the huge amount of energy returned to the crowd. How small it was, this was quite a unique concert. The full vocal sound of Henning Basse, incredible riffs of Pepe Pierez and Basslines of Jürgen Steinmetz. Damn and then there is the drums.. God i did not envy Daniel Schild on this small stage. However I was surprised by the Multitasking of Oliver playing guitar and filling in the blanks on the keys. Starting with the title track we were bound to have a great night.

Now to be honest, there were no flaws, not to my ears anyway. I even must say after listening to the album, i like it live even more! The album is great, but to feel the enrgy on that tiny stage, now that was awesome. afterwards I had the opportunity to meet a few of the band members and pat spoke briefly with Oliver. You will find his Interview Right here on Metaltome.com

Now what to do?? How would you act if you actually could meet one of your Idols??

Now I guess I wouldn't haven been able to anwer that untill three days ago! I had the opportunity to meet one of my absolute favorite composers in music. Oliver Palotai of the Bands Sons of Seasons and Kamelot. Wow! lol! But as humble as I am i keep to myself on a night like this. Altho it was very cool to meet him and the rest of the band. I just love it when they are so down to earth!! hehe! ah well sometimes you just need to be like that :) and it was a good thing too! Being in my home club on the Dungeon stage proving yourself again with a new band, new album.. even the big boys tend to be themselves. What I loved the most is that they are so humble.

Which is an absolute fine quality. We 've seen bands claiming.. wanting and demanding sooo many things.. it's ridiculous.

When do artists stop being people and become anything above the average?? I understand they are under a lot of pressure.. No private life, you become a public asset.. Ugh! but still.. the peeps in front of the stage make or break the ones on top of it ;)

You be who you are and be true to yourself and your fans!

'cause that is what keeps the metal alive and unites artist and fans around the world! Hailz!!
