Mind Matters
Suricata is a mostly self-taught scholar. In her endless efforts to
discover and develop that which matters, she has delved into the most
obscure depths of human and not so human knowledge.
Ever since Suricata discovered the Metal world, she’s been aware that
it goes far beyond simply listening to or playing a particular music
genre. It is also a philosophy, a lifestyle and a quality of the soul.
Here, this hermit will theorize about the features of the Metal
mindset, what is symbolizes and what it represents as a movement and
archetype.
Suricata currently lives in a small village in the tropics, after
having explored a large part of the urban world, of which she refuses
to take part.

Nature is everything that pertains to this world. The natural kingdoms aren’t only physical things and organisms, but they all contain deeper states of life that reflect upon humanity, the psyche and art. Humans are connected to each of the natural kingdoms biologically as well as mentally, and because of this the natural kingdoms must be expressed in every art and skill, including Heavy Metal.

The division between light and darkness has been engraved in the collective mind since time immemorial. It’s believed in most ancient philosophies and mythologies that the universe consists of three large realms with various subdivisions: heaven, earth and the underworld. Before mankind’s decadence, these three were united in harmony, but a discrepancy between the highest and lowest powers caused the worlds to split, and our world became the middle ground.

The hypocrisy that governs society these days has a particular modus operandi: Censorship is the master in homes, schools, malls and just any place people frequent during the day. You are supposed to pretend you’re a righteous citizen who condemns any lack of control in every single area of life, while those who control the system unleash their fury against anyone who goes against their interests.
Hate is a universally preferred victim of censorship because compared to other emotions it’s more intense, sincere and difficult to tame. Hate isn’t more dangerous than other emotions like fear and even happiness; any feeling can cause harm depending on the way it is expressed. But hate has been demonized increasingly in the course of the last two centuries until people became so afraid of it they illegalized even its linguistic manifestations. It’s like they pretend to control universal hate by leaving it only to the military.

Entertainment and the arts will always be the mirror of our collective unconscious, regardless of the type of media used in a particular age in history. Originally, arts were linked to religion almost as a rule. Our forefathers painted, sculpted and wrote epics about their gods, and all the arts people were exposed to had a strong mythical content. Art and spirituality will therefore always be attached to each other regardless of how sacred or profane a particular form of art claims to be.
