Iron, metal, the pen and the sword.
The Philosopher of Metal lives in the same culture-less and honor-less world as any other metal lover. For him metal is like a religion in which he is a novice - no more qualified than any person to speak his mind on such an art. His favorite pastimes include the rediscovering of ancient ways - particularly those of honing the body and the ceremonious hurling of the dishonorable from high cliffs into the waters of the Skagerrak - both of which need to be done more often these days. He desires to inflict pain and harsh lessons upon the feebleminded and to bolster his brothers and sisters of metal with the strength to fight on for all eternity against the tyranny of human weakness.

We are a flitting race. We flit like the wind. But metal heads - what are metal heads if not a bit different from the flock that breezes south or north with the change of seasons? Full-blooded metal, in my opinion will always be about high ideals, and full-blooded metal heads will invariably identify with that statement. Though we flock to this one “genre” (way of life) from many backgrounds, heritages, and to feed different needs, metal is all about remaining true to some concept. Our black shirts are mostly gray; our hair is mostly long, but for what reason? What sets this “trend” (by appearances only) apart from all of the other bullshit that people try to preach or identify with?

I was watching the "Count Of Monte Cristo" last night with Metal Tome’s own founder Christopher and the film spawned one of our usual conversations about how much modern society sucks. The worst in people is still just as secured for the long haul as it ever was in history and now there are plenty of new tools (see photo right) and distractions to amplify that problem. As of this moment there are jackasses lining up to spring into action in order to tell me how much is taken for granted now a days and I invite them all to stave off or perhaps to a duel, (which Chris and I also discussed a good deal) if they still support that which sucks by the end of this reading.

I don't know what to do right now, keep on listening to Cain's Offering on Youtube in anticipation of buying their CD and continue experiencing euphoric explosions in my head or go back to practicing on the guitar. I guess I'll settle for writing a little something about this perfectly enjoyable predicament.

If I ever heard of some guy proclaiming to be a philosopher of metal I would probably say to myself, "What the hell? Who is this lame-o supposing that he's got his conniving finger on the pulse of the metal community? Is this some royal d-bag from d-bag-town who has come to perform a capitalistic sacking of everything metal stands for?"
