i use firefox most of the time because of the gecko engine's rendering speeds and its extensibility(which in itself makes it easier to secure) as well as the speed in which newly discovered vulnerabilities are addressed. i've been using firefox betas for a few years now - all the way back to pheonix and firebird.
browsers based on the web kit engine such as chrome or safari boast faster rendering speeds and are reasonably secure, i use both at times. they scream but lack the extensibility of gecko based browsers.
opera is nice too, they all have their strengths and are excellent alternatives to trident (internet exploder.)
when it comes to safety on the web no browser will completely protect you from bad choices. if you let the bad guy in he's gonna fuck you up. there is no substitute for remaining informed and good internet hygiene. and if you are one of those poor souls who has to use ie for whatever reason, keep it sandboxed for gods sake. these botnets are getting too friggin' big lol.

Firefox 3 is by far the best browser available. Anyone still using Internet Explorer.... change NOW! :)
