Ambivalence - First of all, can you describe your band?

Kyrielle – We are a band which is always trying to distinguish ourself from the typical Rock/Metal scene dominating the actual musical world, particularly by the United States. We think that the actual music is often the result of artists and composers missing emotions and creativity, and who are mostly worrying about becoming the most profitable and as fast as possible.

When we are composing a song, we are always testing different approaches to bring the essence of the strongest feelings and emotions to it. However, in general, we are a simple band that has been created by the love to play and to perform on stage; moreover, we try our best to make people have a very good time. Today's artists don't put enough efforts on their scenic performances regarding their live shows. What they are doing is meaningless, even if they got great melodies and videos… We don't do it for money, but play for the love of music and to give a fucking good time to the people who are following us.

Ambivalence - You don't mention in any way the influence of Visual Kei in your music style definition, but we clearly feel that you are very influenced by this movement. Why this choice to do so?

Kyrielle – We are influenced by Japanese music, but we decided not to talk about it because people generally think that Visual Kei is an exclusive style to Japanese bands. There is also the fact that we haven't claimed to be a Visual Kei band either because this style has come to an extreme point in Japan, where every new band got extreme looks, clothing style, make-ups, haircuts… and we want our band to remain as simple as possible.

Ambivalence - So, what is your opinion about this musical movement... Very alternative or more commercial?

Kyrielle – The movement itself tries to be very alternative, underground and the bands are starting to wear these extreme looks in Japan to become very commercial. This is a bit sad because then each band has to fight against each others in order not to look alike. We don't really have this problem here in our country because we are one of rare bands to have this style.

Ambivalence - Your band's name is "Kyrielle", is there an allusion to religion (repetition in masses of "Kyrie eleison", "Lord, please have mercy on us" in latin) or just an allusion to musical rhymes?

Kyrielle – In fact, there are three meanings to our name, the "Kyrie eleison", the musical rhymes, and finally the mix of both of it, which creates us.

Ambivalence - How does your band have been welcomed in Sweden so far?

Kyrielle – We have been active for a year only and the feedback that we have recieved now is pretty amazing. But we do think that the underground scene in Sweden is too small for us. The places where we can play at the moment are very small ones. We have nothing else to do now in order to be able to catch our public's attention than to leave and go to other countries like in Europe or the Unites States. When this is done, we can then go back to Sweden to play in bigger places. Yeah, it is sad…

Ambivalence - What about your 2 CDs (SLEEPWALKER and UNWRITTEN) ?

Kyrielle - UNWRITTEN is more like a mini album with 3 songs on it. It was the first time we recorded in a studio. We have put all we had in these songs; but we had to see the final result. Finally, the songs were very good so we are very happy. But it is never at our 100 percent satisfaction. Even after the mini album SLEEPWALKER, we like it but we don't think that you can be 100 percent satisfied with art, and it is not different about making music. UNWRITTEN shows an early stage of Kyrielle and its beginner's background. As you can hear it, it is not as coloured as SLEEPWALKER, but this album shows more maturity from us and certainly shows Kyrielle's huge improvement since last February.

Ambivalence - Your launching is kind of surprising, you started instrumentally only before to hire a vocalist "who had never sung"…

Kyrielle – When Kaz started the band, it was at a dead point. Few members would come and leave, and finally he found Yuki, Julius and Vincent who became vital members of the band. As a matter of fact, it is pretty hard to find a vocalist, particularly one who can master different techniques for this particular kind of signing. But Freddy came and joined us and the band knew from then that he had the potential to become a great scene man!

Ambivalence - We know the Swedish bands' attraction for the English language, you also took that way... Can you explain this?

Kyrielle – Well, signing in Swedish is not the most beautiful thing to listen to! We can also say that if we had sung in another language than English, to get the world's attention on us would've been even more difficult. Moreover, Freddy is part American; he's very comfortable with the English language and has got a good pronunciation. So it was natural for us to take this path.

Ambivalence - Are you more like a band to listen to from a CD or a live band?

Kyrielle – We think that we are both! We always give the very best of ourselves, independently whereever you can hear us, from a CD or in concert. We have always made our priority to give a great show, filled up with emotions, performance and presence on the scene. And we also spent a lot of hours in studio for the recording sessions.

Ambivalence - Which is your most memorable moment since your launching?

Kyrielle - We have so many memories as a group. All the "lives ones", the recording sessions and even the photo shoots have been a fucking good time! But the best memory is without any doubt our venue in Gothenburg, Sweden, to play with our "brother group " SAI. The concert in itself was incredible, all went perfectly and we obtained a fucking good feedback from it.

Ambivalence - And which are the projects you would like to see come to life soon?

Kyrielle – The next album for sure which we will try to record in the first half of next year. We absolutely want to develop ourselves more as a band as well as musicians by giving as many lives as we can. Especially, we would like to sign up a contract with an important label company in order to spread our music better and faster around the world. Another thing that we are preparing is the recording of several videos for our future songs and to make them as hot as possible! But the most important thing at the moment is trying to get as many fans as possible because we know that our music deserves to have a very large audience.

Ambivalence - A word to your fans ?

Kyrielle – Keep an eye on us, we'll never give up!
